Transmission Network

The min function of the transmission network is to send information to passengers anywhere on the
network as quickly as possible. A standard DMB project using digital broadcasting technology typically
comprises a number of transmission sites located across the area of vehicle operation. Each site being
connected to the studio by fiber optics, microwave links or satellite if larger distances need to be
covered is able to transmit information to all vehicles simultaneously. This enables live coverage of
important events or last minute timetable changes etc.

DMB

DMB or Digital Multimedia Broadcasting is an adaptation of the standardized DAB (Digital Audio
Broadcasting) protocol. Transmitting at up to 1,5 MBit/s, there is sufficient bandwidth for live
update of video streams or a multitude of multimedia files to a receiving host vehicle traveling up to 400 km/h! The DAB infrastructure is widely used throughout Europe and is the transmission network of choice if a substantial number of vehicles (>100) is involved.
